Here's another question for Nick (Rick's neighbor) and any others who want to pitch in their two cents. Does a Holland work well on a covered deck? We need a new deck and want to replace our old Tradition with an Epic or Apex. We're considering covering the deck, possibly with one of those things where you can slide canvas strips between the joists. I thought a fixed roof would be out of the question with a Holland. Given the choice, a roof or a Holland, the Holland wins hands down. |

Of course, the Holland would be fine on a covered deck. Not so good in a sunroom but a covered deck would be perfect! |

Thanks, Sid. I was concerned about the smokestacks mucking things up. |

Not sure if I understand you correct, but if you are concerned about grease getting on the floor of your deck, so was I because it attracts ants! So what I do now is wipe the stacks with a paper towel before I open the cover. Just be careful not to burn your hand. |

SD Kid,that's a good idea about wiping the stacks but I was more concerned with the smoke coming out of the stacks onto the ceiling of the covered deck. The way it is now, the grill is attached to a natural gas line where the smoke blows across the deck. Now that I think about it, it probably would make more sense to have it in the other outer corner. |

hey guys, Don't mean to be nosy, but think it through carefully before putting your grill close to or under anything flammable such as an overhead roof or covering. I work in the gas business & I have seen what happens when a grill or tank catches on fire. Stuff happens & you can lose your house. The grill manual is fairly specific in the safety section. The insurance companies liability is very limited if you disregard these instructions. Take care. |

Wish I had my deck covered in the rain yesterday...did you know the thermometer stopped working when it got wet! I hope to have a roof over my deck soon...with my Holland under it. |

Gary....good point but what would you suggest? I guess I could roll it under carport when it rains..what do you do? |

My Holland is an older model which is post mounted just off my deck. I have it plumbed for NG & keep a cover on it when not in use. I usually don't cook if it's raining hard. Works for me. |
