Tom Kirkman

Bought a propane Companion. Looks good. But the temp control valve inserts and turns, but doesn't "lock" the way the instructions say it's supposed to. It sort of flops. Not a snug fit at all. Loose as a goose. Is this correct? Thanks.

larry

thats the way mine fits

Jeff

If you lined up the notch and pin and gave it a slight twist and the manifold does not come out of the burner you are fine.

Both my Companions are the same way as you describe.

Alan

All of the Gas Companions regulator valves are loose like that. It is normal, so don't worry about it, just cook and eat. The locking part of your manual means, if the regulator is in place as it should be, you will not be able to pull it straight out. You will only be able to remove it once you have re-aligned the locking dimple and regulator grove again.

Tom Kirkman

I understand and suspected as much. Thanks.

One further question - There is no temp gauge on the Companion. I'd feel better with one rather than guess that the med. setting on the valve will deliver 400F. I assume there is nothing wrong with adding the standard Holland temp gauge to the Companion?

Jeff

One of my two Companions I've made that mod to. Mounted it on the front right side of the hood.

The new oval Holland lid thermometer will fit nicely on top between the stacks, even if you have a Companion with a top handle.

Tom Kirkman

I really prefer the old round temp gauge such as what came on my Apex. Anyone know where those could be found? I suppose I should check with Holland and see if they have any of the old style left in stock.

@ Tom

Sorry,
I know for a fact that the round lid thermometers were discontinued last year & no more are available.
The oval thermometers have 1 advantage, the probe is shorter & won't take as much space inside the lid.

Alan

Tom K. I currently have some of the old round ones instock. Give me a call at 918-786-4700 anytime after 10 AM CTM and we can get one mailed to you if you like. Ask for me.

Tom Kirkman

Will do! Thanks. Probably be Saturday if that's okay. Thanks again.

Alan

Your grill gauges went out today 03/08/11 Tom. Should see them within the week.
