I have a Tradition model with the small drawer in the front for smoking. I've never done any smoking with it. Do I just fill the drawer with the chips and go? Is this amount of chips enough or does more need to be added? Thanks

Stafford

Racer,
Use compressed sawdust type pellets (Holland Flav-o buds). Fill the front drawer about 1/2 full before lighting the grill.
Preheat to 400+ & wait for smoke from the chimneys before adding food.
The front drawer is not the hottest place in your grill. If you have trouble getting it to smoke, add some buds in a small aluminum tart pan in the back left corner of the drip pan. It gets a bit hotter back there.

Thanks! Can you get a decent smoke flavor doing it this way? Any other place to get the sawdust type pellets at?

Stafford

Racer,
Yes, but you need to use the high quality pellets that are all natural wood. Regular wood chips usually don't work in the Hollands.
Also, some pellet brands have a "filler" that reduces the smoke flavor.
I prefer hickory, but the mesquite & alderwood are also good.

Any idea if these are anything like the traeger pellets?

Stafford

No,the treager pellets are fuel for heating a "Pellet grill or stove", not for smoking.
Just go to the Holland web site under "Seasonings & sauces". Buy one bag of "Flav-o-bud" of your choice & try them. One bag will last quite a while.
You can google for them, but I have not found a better deal.
