Apex owner

I recently started having a problem after I light my grill. It's lit and when I raise the lid the flame get blown back down the tube.It makes a loud roaring noise and is burning back toward the valve. I shut it off and it eventually starts working.

Any thoughts ?

I had a similar problem with my Apex, it made a whining sound after opening the lid from time to time. I also had problems with the flame going out.I adjusted the air shutter and it fixed the problem. Here is a link to the instructions on how to adjust the air shutter.

As your manual states, blue flame with small yellow tips. If you have an all blue flame, you have too much air in your mixture. Your burner will roar & your flame will blow out easily.

Always make your air-shutter adjustment with the lid open & no food on the grill. After you add food & close the lid, the flame will pick up more yellow. This is normal.
