I just bought an Epic and cranked it up for the first time. The temperature on both the lid thermometer and my own oven thermometer placed in the center of the grill exceed 525 degrees. The flame is pure blue. I have adjusted the air shutter to the point where there is only an ugly yellow flame but this only lowered the temperature to 450-500, and I do not want to cook with this flame.

Anything else I can do?

On the newer Hollands,a 500 degree preheat is about normal when new. They will come down about 50 degrees after cooking a few times & getting seasoned in.

525 is a little hot, you might want to call Holland & see if they will send you a smaller orifice to cool it down a bit. They have always been very helpful to me.

Foster, thanks - I gave them a call and they said that 525 was expected for the newer models, but should come down with use, as you said. I"ll keep checking it.
