I couln't find Dawn power dissolver anywhere, so I bought this "LA's Totally Awesome cleaner"at Dollar General. It comes in a clear bottle and this stuff works. I sprayed it on my grill and drip pan and let it set for a few minutes. The baked-on grease came off easily. I had to reapply a few times and my drip pan is now about 90% shiny aluminum and clear of all the black grimy build-up.

Yup

Awesome is some REALLY good stuff!!

For some reason I was under the impression you were not to use cleaning detergents on the drip pan!

I read on this site not to use oven cleaner to clean the drip pan.

Oven cleaner is OK, but only on the "Stainless steel" drip pans that some older models came with. Always do this with the drip pan out of the grill.

Do not use oven cleaner on any of the newer models with the aluminum drip pans or older models with regular steel drip pans.

Actually if you just keep the drip pan scraped after use, it is not neccessary to have it perfectly clean, just free of excess build-up & the drain open.
