Does anyone know if the Classic (mid 90s) had a inside heat shield in it. When I got mine from a friend, it didnt have one, and was wondering if they served a true purpose. I'm getting 400 degrees, so is it necessary? Looks like the breakdown in the parts pictures shows one. Appreciate a response.

Ronald,
the older steel bottom grills had the inside heat shield, Pt# SG2-100-4, to protect the bottom shell from the direct heat from the burner. It could get very hot & blister the paint on the outside in the back. That could lead to rusting.

Arthur, Thanks for the reply, is the air baffle part of this setup? I could tell it looked like something was located on the backside of grill because of outline where it used to be.Looks like I'll be getting one. How does it mount? (heat shield that is.)

The air baffle is in the inside front, mounted just above the hole where the burner extends through the front of the shell. It was perforated with small holes.

The heat shield was on the bottom in the back behind the burner & was wedged under the flame deflector legs.
