Just wondering, should I remove the drip pan and clean the inside of the bottom shell and apply a light coat of vegetable oil periodically? I know the newer shells are aluminum but I want to protect my investment for many years.

Just keep it clean & dry in the bottom. Take the drip pan out & vacuum out any loose rust or food particles that might absorb moisture from humidity. Do this a couple of times per year. No oil or spray.
After cooking, leave the lid open while cooling down to prevent condensation on the inside. Keep it covered when not in use.
