Topic Title: Flavo-O-Buds

I just got a new Holland. I noticed Holland sells the Flavo-O-Buds grilling pellets. It seems like an interesting idea. Has anybody used them? Do they release smoke into the grill? I'm wondering because some people have suggested to get wood chips and soak them in water. The pellets seem easier, I would assume.

I am new to Holland grilling and have not used the tray and the flav-o-buds yet. However, I am tonight.

There are a few topics here on the forums about where to put the tray and some folks having trouble getting the wood pellets to smoke. You might search for those for some more information.

I will let you know how it turns out for myself tomorrow.

The Flav-o-buds are compressed wood sawdust. Since the Holland is not a direct flame grill, solid wood pieces don't work.
The buds must get over 400 degrees for a few minutes before they start to smoulder. If your grill is not getting hot enough, you need to do whatever maintenance or adjustments necessary to get to the optimum temperature.
When all is said & done, the grills do get hotter in the back & the best way to smoke is to put 1 or 2 simple aluminum trays in the back corners of the drip pan before lighting. Don't even think about opening the lid or adding food until smoke has been coming out of the stacks for 5 minutes.
