Tried to retro fit an ignitor system on my heritage grill and ran into some problems. with the top unit off the stand i have good spark from the ignitor to the electrode. as soon as i put the top unit back on the riser stand cant get any spark from the electrode, but can get the ignitor to spark to the old match holder clip. any help wife would like the easier lighting capability. thanks

Not sure what you are trying to do. All Heritages have igniter systems.
Are you "replacing" the original igniter parts on a Heritage or are you trying to "add" an igniter system to an older grill that didn't have an igniter?
It almost sounds like you are crimping the electrode wire between the bottom housing & the mounting bracket at the top of the post.
Please elaborate & maybe we can help.

I was wrong its not a Heritage its a Classic also checked to see if the electrode wire was getting pinched but thats not the case. once again any help is welcome.

Care to tell us what igniter system you are trying to install?
Good electrical contact at all points is critical. Have you cleaned the contact area for the electrode in the bottom of the grill?

JD, try your ignitor after dark check and see if it shorting out against the body or stand. some ignitors don't have good insolation and if the wire is close to metal the spark will go through the insolation. a little electrical tape and moving the wire should take care of it if thats the problem

trying to install the same electrode that now comes on the heritage/heritage plus. two prong with ceramic base. may need to wire brush beneath the electrode. am also using a rotary ignition and have wrapped the electrode from the ceramic base to the connection terminal with electrical tape. will check to see if i can see anything tonight. thanks guys, will report back if there is any change

found out after some research that the ignitor had to have a seperate ground wire hooked that up and works fine now. thanks to everyone that tried to help. great blog
