Light grill & place Aluminum Foil over entire cooking surface (SHINNY SIDE DOWN)
Close lid and set grill on HIGH, when it quits Smoking turn off an remove foil and brush vigorsly.

DO NOT! I repeat, DO NOT completely cover the cooking surface with anything, especially foil.

Without air circulation, the burner can go out & fill the grill with gas. For the same reason, never put foil or anything else over the stacks.

I'm sure Frank is well meaning, but this is dangerous.

DO NOT fasten to cooking grid, just lay the foil on top. Air flow is no problem as the heat and air flow from it flutters the foil and allows sufficient air flow.

I've been doing this for years and am very happy with the results

I clean my grill by just turning valve to close position and filling with water to steam it clean. Do this a couple of times and it gets all buildup off and works even better.
