After some of the basic cleaning, thought I would check the temperature of my grill. The Holland thermometer in the lid showed 375 degree in the sunshine, 85 degreees, no breeze. The cooking surface was over 400 degrees. Is this correct?

Yep, there's about 25 to 30 degrees difference from the lid thermometer and the actual temp on the surface. It's not a problem, or at least it isn't to me. As long as your food is cooking at the right times, you should be fine.
