I've got an older grill without a smoke drawer. It is a pain to lift up the grate and put that little pan on the drip pan.

So I had an idea. I manufactured a smoke pan(as a test) from a 1 pound coffee can, cut down to about 1 1/2 inches high and drilled allot of 1/2 inch holes(Unibit) in the bottom and all of the sides.

I soaked the wood chips in water, put them in the "smoke bowl" and put it on top of the grill.(easy to get to)as soon as I lit it.

It was 40 degrees F yesterday and it took about 30 minutes for it to start smoking...Then add your meat.

Seems to work Great. I'm going to construct one now out of aluminum. Comments ????
