Topic Title: Steak Question

I've had my Holland for over 13 years and have to admit I have never cooked a steak on it. Have other grills/cookers that I could get a good sear with.

Today I bought a Searmate did the initial burn but did not cook anything. Wife and daughter get home tomorrow from Miami and want to cook steaks with my new toy.

I intend to sear the steaks with the searmate and finish them off on the grill. Everyone in our housefold likes their steak either Med, Med Well, or Well done.

My question is how long should they be cooked additionally on the grill after searing for the degrees of doneness I mentioned above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a searmate but.......

I would get the steaks to almost where you like them and then sear.....

Remember too, that steaks continue to cook after you take them up.


Jim, Seer each side 60 to 90 seconds on high, depending how thick a cut you have. To get the steak house look, turn the steak 90 degrees about half way through the seering process for an Xing brand on the meat. They should be finished on the main grill in about 15 minutes. Good luck......


Thanks for the 15 minutes. I did 12 mins the other night and think I needed an extra minute or two. However there wasn't a scrap left to be had.
